Birds at Woodside Horse Park
Join us for an educational event to learn about some of the most common birds in the area and how you can support our native species.
The Woodside Horse Park is an equestrian facility whose mission includes education and land stewardship, and allows us access for guided public bird walks. It is a rare opportunity to experience sweeping vistas of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the grassy hills adjacent to Jasper Ridge, and the bay. Home to raptors year-round, the park features several habitats, including oak woodland, water features that attract migratory waterfowl, and open fields.
This event will focus on our native bird species and how you can support them in various ways. Join us for refreshments, a slide presentation, and a short walk.
Leaders: Christin New and Doug Broshort walk and a slide presentation.
Embroidery Basics at the Horse Park
Slow down and learn the basics of modern hand embroidery! Whether you've never picked up a needle or have years of stitching experience, this class will show you new and exciting ways to embroider and encourage you to think outside the hoop. We will look at classic techniques such as the humble running stitch and elevate them with fun modifications.
This beginner friendly class includes hands-on instruction by local embroidery artist Tiff Tzeng and will guide you through the stitches needed to complete the project. Pick your favorite colors to truly make this project your own! This workshop is geared towards adults.

Pine Needle Weaving Workshop
Join us for a hands-on 90-minute medallion workshop teaching traditional weaving with pine needles with Indigenous maker, Ellissa Thompson.
Ellissa Thompson (Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma) grew up in the Bay Area, where she was always drawn to the beadwork worn by powwow dancers and the aunties around her — intricate pieces that carried beauty, tradition, and story.
When the COVID-19 pandemic moved her work and school life online, Ellissa chose to deepen her relationship with beadwork — turning a budding passion into both a livelihood and a way to stay connected to community. Along the way, she’s found deep support and learning in the beading circle at Intertribal Friendship House Oakland, in the wider Bay Area Native community, and with her relatives in Chickasaw Country.
This program is hosted by Woodside Library, but will take place at Horse Park at Woodside.
Registration Opens Tuesday Nov 25 at 10:00am
